The narrative of the story was initially inspired by Freaky Friday and The Breakfast Club. Both of these films were set in high school and I wanted to take the element of the body/mind swap and combine it with the characterisation of five people - what would it be like if it happened between a group of friends? How much conflict, chaos and destruction will it bring to their lives? I just felt it would be really interesting to explore that concept especially in today's modern society, where some people are less empathetic and quick to judge others on the surface.
So we had already decided on having a film under the fantasy and drama genres.
- Fantasy: body/mind swap phenomenon
- Drama: subject on psychology and mental health
Most other notable films that deal with body swap fall under the comedy genre such as Freaky Friday and The Change-Up. I think our take on the idea will be our film/trailer's unique selling point; the fact it will be story-driven drama (with critically acclaimed performances and direction featured in the film trailer).
